channelAustin regrettably announces that the City of Austin has decided not to renew our management contract. Beginning October 1st channelAustin will no longer manage Austin’s community media center, the resources, and public access television services. Instead, the Austin Film Society is now the public access manager.
For the past 10 years all of us here at channelAustin have worked hard to transform the City’s community television facilities and resources while working to re-invent public access. We are honored to have served the thousands who have walked through these doors to help bring their voices to the community and tell their stories on the public access channels.
Austin is our home and we’ll still be around. Some of us you’ll run in to on the hike and bike trail or at a farmer’s market. Others will help AFS transition as the new public access managers. And still others will continue to work to help youth, nonprofits and small businesses share their stories.
So look for us in our new incarnation – as 78702 media and the iYouth media institute!
