* Fall 2008 Series Application Deadline *
Tuesday, September 9, 8pm
Please don’t wait until the last minute to submit your application, especially if you are submitting digital files (see note below on FireWire v. USB hard drives). Producer Services is open on Saturdays from 10:00 to 5:00. That’d be a good time to bring in your drive and turn in your Fall Series application and transfer files. The application is available at www.channelaustin.org.
* Same Day Reservations *
Starting October 1, in order for equipment staff to better server producers, same day reservations will be available only through Producer Services with 2 hours advance notice. Call 478-8600 x10.
* Show Listings *
Imagine having your show listed in the on-screen TV guide on the digital cable channel and viewers being able to program their DVR to capture your show and watch it. This could happen. But it would require the Programming Department to have your show more than three weeks in advance of the air date. Staff is trying to figure out a way to make this happen and we’re looking for your input and recommendations. If you have any suggestions on how we could best implement a practice of shows being submitted early enough to appear in the show listings, please send them to Programming by using our online email at www.channelaustin.org/contact
* Refresher Videos *
If you are certified in BASIC CAM, ADVANCED CAM, FINAL CUT PRO, or the MINI STUDIO, but need a refresher, there are now REFRESHER VIDEOS available for check out in the equipment room, and they soon will be posted to our website. There is also a video available for those who are TV101 certified, and want to learn to DELIVER DIGITAL FILES FOR PROGRAMMING. If you would like to make a reservation for the DVDs, please contact Producer Services.

* Studio Lighting Tips *
DO point the light out, to illuminate your subject.
Don't point a light straight down. (Heat rises! & will damage the reflectors!)
DO use the safety chains provided! (An unchained light is an accident waiting to happen)
Don't leave a light plugged into the grid with the barn doors closed. (It's a damaged light waiting to happen!)
DO hit the blackout button or dim the lights when not using them for a length of time. (Save our bulbs, we spend hundred of dollars on them every year)
Don't just go the light board & bring up all the faders. (It's a damaged light waiting to happen!)
For more information on lighting contact the Training Department through our web site:
www.channelaustin.org/contact
* FireWire versus USB *
A note to those who are still using USB hard drives. STOP!
File delivery on a FireWire hard Drive is like moving cars down the freeway (when it is NOT rush hour). Traffic moves a fast steady rate.
File delivery on a USB hard drive is like moving cars down the access road. You may get a pretty good speed some times, but there are more stops & interruptions in the path
If you are delivering your program with a FireWire hard drive, you will get in & out of the building much faster.
The average price of an external FireWire hard drive is in the 60-100$ range. It is more than worth the investment.
